Gym Music

My gym has turned up the music they play over the loudspeakers. It's terrible Top 40 dance music, so I use my headphones to listen to my own music. The problem is that even though I crank my personal music to ear-damaging levels, I can still faintly hear the club's dance music in the background. It's worse when I'm trying to listen to a new band and don't know the song, because then I'm actually trying to listen so I hear the ambient noise that much more. The only reasonable solution is to play albums that I've heard a thousand times at that high volume. Then I can focus on The Clash, and by focus I mean that I can tune it out and hear nothing. So I'm basically pumping super loud music into my skull so I can have a little peace and quiet. It's an odd world we live in.

  1. I have the exact same problem. I think I will go deaf before I hit middle age, simply because I have to have my ipod on at full volume to drown out the terrible gym music.
