Canoe Shopping

At my old job we'd have a big canoe sale each year, and one day a guy drove all the way from Canada to buy a new boat from us. I don't think he did a very good job in accounting in terms of figuring out the price of gas and accommodations vs how much he'd save on the canoe, but he did consider the taxes he'd have to pay on the new boat when he returned to Canada. This man told me that if he brought home a new boat that he'd purchased in America, they'd make him pay a fortune, so he asked some of the employees at my store to make it look used. They probably could have used a few branches to scuff it up and maybe a bit of artfully applied mud. Instead they tied the boat to the back of his truck with a rope and had him drive through the parking lot while they sat in it. I'm sure it was a lot of fun, but if the law is rigidly applied here, the guys effectively aided the canoe buyer in tax evasion. And the Mounties always get their man. I hope they're not all still looking over their shoulders
