Two of my friends got engaged last weekend. Or, rather, one of my guy friends and one of my friends who happens to be a girl got engaged to each other. There was only one engagement; two people. I've seen a lot of engagements lately, and we were talking about it at work. One of my friends was going through a process using focus groups at work, and one of the focus group proctors he consulted had an odd process. This person would ask the members of the focus group about the expression on the face of the person when they bought their engagement ring. His notion was that this is supposed to be some kind of traumatic memory that--once they consider it--offers a Zen-like window into their own feelings. Sounds cool, as long as there are no women in the focus group.

Focus Group Time
