Trail Impact

When I'm trying to bike up a really steep, short section of trail and don't make it, I'll always get off and tell myself that I'm only walking up it because I'm trying to minimize trail impact. It's not that I couldn't hack it and the guy in front of me could. It's that I'm more conscious of the destructive force of biking up a wet, loosely packed trail and losing traction than the other guy who's very clearly riding cleanly uphill. All these talented bikers can ride clean through the steep uphills while I have to decide between getting off my bike and pushing it or straddling the top tube and waddling quickly uphill before anyone notices. I at least walk carefully on my way up as to not tear things up.
