I used to have to use the Associated Press Style Guide at work. This is a large style manual that tells you how to use or spell certain words; the goal being consistency across your organization. It had a few interesting quirks, but the absolute best one was for the "cent" symbol ¢. I remember the terse note next to this symbol: "This sign does not exist." Listen AP Style Guide, it's fine if you want to tell me not to use this symbol, but please don't tell me it doesn't exist. You printed right next to the place where you said it doesn't exist.
