I'm not a birthday person. Some of my friends will throw themselves weeklong extravaganzas that involve me buying them lots of drinks and food, and others use the day as leverage to force all their friends to meet up. Either is fine, but they're not for me. I find it odd to point to that one day and tick the calendar over and say you're one year older. Not really, you're one day older, you spent that whole last year working on this one. It reminds me of a quote that I wish I could credit to a speaker, but I have no idea who said it. I hope I'm not quoting a long-dead dictator here: "You don't only live once--you only die once. You live every day." In the end, I suppose this is more of an argument to celebrate your birthday every day than once a year, and I'm okay if people do that, I just don't want to pay for all their drinks.
