Gym Culture

On the rare occasions that I actually make it to a gym, I'm an outsider. Gyms are communities unto themselves. People know each other, at least by recognizing each other's workout outfits, and as communities, certain etiquette is observed. Customs and subtle polite behaviors are the norm, but as an outsider, I have no idea what's going on. I feel like everything I do is a breach of protocol; like I'm a caveman dropped into Victorian society. People never say anything to me or complain, but I always notice after being there for an hour that the towel I'm carrying around is much larger than the ones everyone else has or that I'm the only person wearing a swimsuit in the weight room.
