There was a woman who used to come into my bike shop. She was always in a tremendous rush, shouting at people who wouldn't scatter out of her path and taking the shop's handicap parking spot to make a quick exit. Then one day she couldn't wait to see if traffic was clear while pulling out of a driveway and a dump truck crushed her Mercedes. I found myself thinking about this woman while pedaling home in the rain, and I hate to admit it, but I found myself wishing other people with similar attitudes that I have the misfortune of corresponding with would also get hit by dump trucks. At that same moment a Mercedes pulled into the bike lane and passed within inches of me while trying to get past a slow moving vehicle in front of it. It served as a nice reminder that if I'm hoping other people get hit by dump trucks, then there's probably something wrong with my outlook as well.
