Right out of college my friend Ed landed a great job as a district manager in charge of several discount grocery stores. The company paid him well and sold groceries very cheap, but they cut costs on anything they could, including construction of their stores. So much so, that at one of the stores he managed, his office as right next to the bathroom, and instead of running the bathroom exhaust vent outside, it just piped all of the foul air into his office. He said the worst thing wasn't when people went in to use the bathroom, but the times that guys went in and smoked while using the bathroom. I guess there's a hidden cost to everything.
