Surprise Pizza


When I make pizza at home I use that packaged pizza dough that comes rolled in a pressurized cardboard tube. You open it by peeling the label away until it pops open and bursts apart. No matter how much I mentally prepare for that pop, it makes me jump in surprise every time. I tell myself that I'm not going to overreact, that it's going to be fine, and then a split second later I'm cursing at myself for jumping again. The only thing that I could compare the feeling to is what it must be like to find out you're going to have kids. No matter how long you've been trying or how much you might be expecting it, I'm guessing that you never feel quite ready. At least I'll have some practice.
