Airline Technology

I like to keep an eye on flights that my friends are on when they're heading into town. It's a nice way to be ready when they arrive. The online flight trackers from all of the airlines are about the same: they show time of departure, estimated arrival, and a map tracking the progress. But for some reason on the map, the plane icon is the size of Michigan. It defeats the purpose when someone's on a flight that's less than two hours. The icon is so huge that you really have no idea where the person is. It's baffling. I suppose it could be a security issue, them not wanting to share the exact plane locations, but why even have it? Just send me a fax when the flight arrives and I'll be fine.
