Twin Elevator Speak

I stood next to a friend today waiting for the elevator as she chatted away on her cell phone. Cells don't lose the signal in our building when you go for a ride on the elevator. The courtesy rules surrounding talking on a cell phone on the elevator have been relaxed in the past few years as people have felt out what's okay to do on a cell phone in public and what isn't. For example, huge fights with your girlfriend while waiting in line at the grocery store are still frowned upon. Talking during elevator rides, that's okay as long as you keep your voice down. So it was me in the back of the elevator, two people in front of me chattering away. They couldn't see, but during the ride down, both turned while the other wasn't looking and gave a nasty look. When you love irony, you live for moments like these.
