The other day I was trying to figure out why I hate the word "foodie" so much. I think that it's the way it's self-applied, but it's somehow is supposed to carry more gravitas than someone simply saying they like food. Perhaps it wouldn't bother me so much if people had to go to a school and graduate with some kind of Foodie Medal that they could wear. After all, it doesn't bother me when a restaurant has a sommelier, these people have to take some serious tests. And I don't mind restaurateurs, they own restaurants. Foodies should have a higher hurdle to clear than just one day deciding they're dedicated to food culture.
