Camp Stand
It isn't fair to call it "camping" when you go for
only one night. It would be more appropriate to call it "having a campfire
and then sleeping outside." These 1-night-stand camping trips are great
because you boil a full weekend down to the essential items: A campfire,
drinking beer, staring at the campfire, then falling asleep and leaving in the
morning before it gets too hot out. On these little trips you need to pack the
same amount of stuff as you would on a longer camping outing. It can make you
feel preposterous, like all you should need is a handkerchief tied to a stick,
but it's not like you can leave your tent and sleeping bag at home if you're
only going for a night. Or you could, but then you'd just be a guy drinking
beer and starting fires in the woods, and people tend to frown on that
behavior.
