College Maturity

One of my friends just graduated college. We were out while he was still enrolled in class, and he threw something into the trash, then pulled out a notebook and documented it. He said it was part of a project. I remember doing something similar when I was in college. But instead of making notes of everything I threw into the garbage for weeks, I sat down on the night before the project was due and wrote my paper, and then got a big pile of different pens and pencils and made a journal that I thought was a reasonable list of things I imagined myself disposing of over the past few weeks. I don't remember what I got on the paper or the name of the class. It's amazing how much more my friend, the recent grad, managed to get out of his college experience. My parents would have been better off sending me west to ski bum for four years, and then telling me to go to college just this year.
