The Solstice

Yesterday was the longest day of the year. I'm trying to be upbeat about it. When people are trying to determine whether they're a pessimist or an optimist, they shouldn't ask if the glass is half-full, but rather if we're beginning the long dark slide into winter or celebrating the beginning of summer on June 21st. Also, it makes no sense that summer officially starts on June 21, the longest day of the year. This should mark the mental middle of summer. On my calendar summer would begin June 1st, the middle would be June 21st, and the end would be August 31st. I realized that June 21 isn't in the middle of those dates, but with the Fourth of July coming up and the end of summer always flying past, it just feels like the middle of summer.
